Last Thursday  the 7th Annual Junior Sports Day  was held on the KICS field.   A great afternoon was had by all including the parents who eagerly awaited the students vs. parents relay.  Although Sports Day is  a competitive event where students earn points for their houses, the main emphasis is on student participation; developing their athletics skills and the confidence to perform them. Students participating in Y3/4 and Y5/6 .  The carousel of activities included: tunnel ball; 300m race; long jump; high jump; target throw; distance throw;  shot put; shuttle run and an obstacle course. These were followed by hurdles and sprint heats and finals as well as  house relays.  The cross country event was postponed as we ran out of time and will now be held on Sunday the 19th of February instead of Junior School assembly.

Well done to Hannah Krakolinig  and Ahmed Yasir Yousif,  who were the fastest boy and girl sprinters on the day.  Also to Abdelwahab Nasreldin Babiker and Hannah Pinney who were the fastest hurdlers on the day.

Congratulations to the Crocodiles who won the event with 893 points,  scoring 2 more points more than the Lions who finished in 891 points. The Scorpions came in 3rd position with 820 points and the Dolphins in 4th place with 762 points.

Around 60 students and parents stayed at the conclusion of sports day for a BBQ, which proved to be a nice relaxing way for students and their families to unwind from sports day.

An event such as this would not run as smoothly as it did without the help of many people. Firstly I would like to thank the students for their energy , commitment, enthusiasm and great behaviour, secondly my colleagues in the PE department, Ms. Mary Ann, Mr. Chris and Mr. Yousif, thirdly, I would like to thanks Ms. Kirsten and the teachers, teaching assistants and specialist teachers who helped organise the teams and man the stations from the Junior Section and finally I would like to thank the parents, families and friends who came to support our budding athletes here at KICS.

Regards, Robyn Fox
PE PYP teacher.
