Last
week Year 8s strapped on their rucksacs and headed out for a three day
camping extravaganza at Lake Jebel Awia. After a somewhat elongated
walk, and finding some human skeletons poking out of the sand along the
way, the students arrived at the beautiful lakeside camp. They then had
the luxury of setting up their tents on grass, not sand. A rare luxury
on ODE! In the evening we stargazed and played 'pass the plot' with
students using their vivid imaginations to collectively construct a
story, each student adding to the story where the last one left off.

Activities
during the camp included a sand sculpture competition, running a hash
trail, and negotiating a natural obstacle course with a golf ball
suspended on a ring by long threads. Beware if the ball should fall!
One of the highlights was definitely the fishing, where students learnt
how to use the correct equipment and bait, and between them caught 26
decent sized fish. They then had the chance to de-scale and prepare
them for grilling. Evening time found us sitting round the campfire,
eating "the best tasting fish ever" and toasting marshmallows.

A
much shorter walk out on the final morning led to the buses and a
celebratory banana with chocolate sauce! Thank you to Mr. Pantelis for
supplying us with cold drinking water (another ODE luxury!) and a
beautiful location to camp in.
