Friends or Foes? The History of Sudanese – Egyptian Relations Last Wednesday Dr Fadwa Abdel Rahman Ali Taha opened the 2010-11 Humanities Department Lecture Series in the Senior Library with a fascinating lecture titled Friends or Foes? The History of Sudanese – Egyptian Relations. Dr Fadwa Abdel Rahman Ali Taha provided the audience with a concise overview of the historical period from the Turco Egyptian invasion in the early1820s to the May 2010 meeting on the Nile River Basin Cooperative Framework Agreement. The lecture provided a clear insight into the modern, contemporary and diplomatic nature of Egyptian and Sudanese relations and the challenges both past and present of this relationship. After the lecture there was an opportunity for questions and healthy debate, where it become very apparent that there are very different interpretations of aspects of the history of the two countries and the nature of this relationship! The lecture was attended by over seventy members of the KICS community. It was great to see so many new faces but also many for whom this was the start of the fifth year of attending lectures at KICS. Details of upcoming lectures will appear in the KICS Weekly News and KICS Website after the Eid.
