Year 8 Interdisciplinary Field Trip to Kenana Sugar Company. March 7-9th 2010
The Year 8 students undertook an interdisciplinary field trip to Kenana Sugar Factory this week. They learned about sustainable systems and got to see for themselves the processes involved in the manufacture of sugar, from the planting of the ‘setts’ (the cuttings used to grow the cane) right through to the finished products. The Kenana Sugar Factory is one of the largest operations of its kind in the world and it was a wonderful opportunity for the students to see the practical use of the subjects they are learning at school. Mathematics, Science and Humanities skills were applied and the experiences they had will serve the students well in later years. The staff at Kenana were very helpful and informative and our students were exemplary in their behaviour and fine ambassadors for KICS. We hope to make this a yearly event on the school calendar.
