On Friday 26th January, the first Johnny Bodourian Memorial Charity Golf Tournament was held at Fenti Golf Course.

Nine 4-balls comprising players from both the KICS and DAL communities competed over 18 holes of Stableford golf to win the prestigious 1939 hickory 4 iron trophy.

This annual event is a tournament between the KICS community - both parents and staff - and DAL Group employees.  Although a genuinely competitive event, the overriding aim is to raise money for charity to honour the memory of Mr. John Bodourian, a founding member of the KICS board, as well as to provide members of the community with an enjoyable family morning out at the golf course.

To this end the KICS Parents Association arranged for some children games - basketball and football - and also pony rides.  Drinks and snacks were available and once the golfers had finished their rounds visitors were able to take buggy rides and also to stroll around the course.

The driving range provided visitors with an opportunity to try out their golf swings and many people took this opportunity.  For some it was their first attempt at golf and several remarked that they really found it to be both a challenging and an enjoyable experience.

This year the tournament was honoured to have the presentation of prizes made by Mrs. Mimig Bodourian, sister of Johnny.

Prizes went to the slowest team (Mr. Andre Motyl, Mr. Peter McAinsh, Mr. Amin Gabbani and Mr. Daryl Radford), the closest to the pin (Mr. Mark Webber) and the longest drive (Mr. Hani Hassan).  The Worst Shot of the day award went to Mr. Tony Frattina who accepted his award with very good humour.

The highlight of the day was the announcement of the winning team and the best individual score. The prize for the winning round (best net score) went to Mr. Osama Daoud, whilst the overall winning team went to a Dal Group 4-ball comprising Mr. Osama Daoud, Mr. Tom Stephenson, Mr. Victor Oosthuizen and Mr. Hani Hassan.

Approximately 12,000 US Dollars were raised for charity through the generous sponsorship of each of the DAL business units.  This year, the charity selected by Mrs Koky Bodourian, was Ibn Ouf Children’s Hospital.

Thanks go to Mr. Jeff Ducket for leading the organisation of this tournament, to Mr. Hani Hassan of Fenti Golf and to KICSPA for all their efforts in making the event such a memorable family occasion.
