On Thursday 21st January the under 11 boys played in the annual Khartoum Cup.  For many of them it was the first time they had played 11-a-side games on such a large field. They kicked off the tournament against KAS and what a start it was! KICS dominated from the start and ended up winning 5-0 with Quentin scoring a hat-trick.

After a rest and some wonderful spring rolls they came up against Unity who had beaten them last week and again showed their strength and skill to beat them again 1-0. The boys had to pick themselves straight up to play Nile Valley Academy, which they did to produce a 0-0 draw.

After this they had to wait for the final game and Mr. Iain to crunch the numbers before they discovered they had done enough to reach the final! So with the floodlights on the final began. KICS lined up with a slight change in tactics and it began to pay off straight away with Chris having a rasping shot that shook the crossbar. The game was being played mainly in the Unity half but they were always dangerous on the counter-attack. As the half came to an end, KICS came very close to scoring but Ahmed’s effort was turned round the post by the Unity goalkeeper. After an inspirational team talk at half-time, KICS came out as they had ended the half – attacking the Unity goal. Soon it paid off as Quentin again surged down the right-wing passing several defenders before unleashing an unstoppable shot. 1-0 to KICS.  Now the team had to show their true mettle to hang on to their slender lead. With some inspirational defending,  especially from their captain Matteu, and great support from the crowd they were able to hold on to become the U11 Khartoum Cup winners for 2010. Next stop Dubai!

Special thanks to all the parents who came and supported and to Mr. Iain & Mr. Daryl for all their help in organising and running the tournament.
