Over 20 members of staff are currently involved in running a ten week, evening Teacher Training programme at KICS, either by teaching, translation or in administration. About 70 different local teachers attend over the three evenings coming mainly from community based schools located in the IDP areas around the outskirts of the city. Courses are offered in Maths, Science or English.

It is extremely encouraging to see the good will and community spirit displayed by the KICS staff, who, having worked at school all day are willing to stay and work in the evenings as well. The courses are all full and in some cases oversubscribed which demonstrates the need for such training.

The course material is taken from the Macmillan Africa  ‘Teaching Methods Series`. it is  well produced, relevant and easy to use.

The Global Network Student group will be supporting the project by helping to raise transport money for some of the local teachers who travel long distances to come. Look out for those ‘Change for Change’ collection boxes around school.
