The KICS Theatre Department recently produced a community theatre production of Moliere’s THE BOURGEOIS GENTLEMAN. The idea for producing this play as the 2008-09 Season’s main production came from the IB Theatre students who studied Commedia dell’ Arte last year in class and wanted to produce a full scale Commedia piece. Many of Moliere’s plays are influenced by or directly borrow from the Italian Comedy that later became so popular in France during the 17th century when he was writing. This play also provided a nice contrast in study to the world premiere African Drama that the KICS Community Theatre produced the year before.
THE BOURGEOIS GENTLEMAN was cast during the 2nd week of school, rehearsed for a week and half before Ramadan and then four and half weeks after Ramadan and finally performed in front of three very appreciative audiences from November 12th-14th in the KICS Amphitheatre. The scenery, lighting, props, make up and some costumes were designed by the IB Theatre Year 13 students.
The directors are very proud of their 11 member Commedia dell’ Arte street theatre cast as well as the 33 member cast and 10 member run-crew of their student run full scale production. These students have set yet another new level to the Theatre tradition at KICS and continue to soar to new heights. Bravo Cast and Crew on a job well done!
