KICS celebrated another wonderful Book Week from the 26th of February to 2nd of March 2017. On the final day, which was World Book Day, we celebrated book characters across both sections of the school. Primary students met on the field and walked to the Senior Section where they walked around the Senior Library and onto the World Map area.   Each class went onto the stage to  have a class photo and brave students told the audience who their character was.  Over 95% of students dressed up this year so well done students.  There were some imaginative costumes such as R2D2 made from a  plastic rubbish bin  and  the  student who dressed as the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz. Afterwards the teachers performed a play called The  Yellow and Brown Club which the students enjoyed.  Mrs Pilar then announced the winners of the Extreme Reading competition.  We had lots of entries this year and many of the students used the GreenScreen  app to make very extreme photos. We had students reading in circles of fire, on killer whales and dinosaurs. Students enjoyed seeing all the entries on display by Mrs Rulas office. Miss Mal organized the Guess Who is Reading competition and the winners were given a book voucher so there were some happy readers in Primary that day.

One important part of Book Week is Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R).  Everyone across the school spent 15 minutes reading anything of their choice.  Some people read e-books, other people read books or magazines.  Even though it was only 15 minutes daily for 5 days some students and staff expressed sadness that they couldn’t do it every day.  Now that is good to hear!

In the Seniors assembly  on the  Thursday students who made an effort to wear a quote on the Tuesday and  be a character  for the Thursday were recognized with skip the queue vouchers and winners were announced for the competitions: the Decorate a Chair;  If your Life was a Title in a Book, What Would the Title Be?, Guess Who is Reading and Guess the Book in the Jar.

The importance of words were celebrated with Wear a Quote on Your Clothes Day in Seniors.  This year we focused on how reading can help us with empathy and understanding others by pinning or taping quotes to clothing. Students chose some fascinating quotes to display.

In the Infant Library there was: Fairy Tales Title Guessing Game in Arabic with Ms. Randa; Character Guessing Game with Ms. Steffi, story time with Ms. Barbara, Dr. Seuss’ "The Sneetches” with Ms. Natasha, Book Cover Jigsaw Puzzle with Ms. Simona and in the Junior Library there was: a book quiz with Ms.Fadwa and a music Story with Ms. Jacklyn and Miss Carley made the students laugh.

A big thanks to all those who helped make Book Week a success this year.
